FAQ: Skin Care

Q: What causes breakouts?

A: There are quite a few things that trigger breakouts... excess oil, dead skin cells that don't shed off like they should, acne bacteria and even hormones can cause breakouts. The best thing to do for your skin is to cleanse, tone and moisturize. No matter how oily your skin is, you still need to moisturize because if you don't your skin will produce more oil to compensate. You can try exfoliating 1-2 times a week to help rid your skin of those dead skin cells as an addition to your normal face routine. Gerda Spillmann has a great skin care line and their Peau de Fleurs Face Wash contains micro exfoliating beads that break down to really penetrate your skin. Follow the cleanse with their Peau de Fleurs Toner (Alcohol free) because it contains salicylic acid that will deeply penetrate your pores. Any of their moisturizers would be good to follow up with.

Q: What is the difference between Pharmaceutical Grade Ingredients and Cosmetic Grade Ingredients?

A: Cosmetic grade ingredients are not regulated by the FDA and are allowed to contain up to 30% bacteria in them! These include the expensive brands, as well as the cheaper brands. The bacteria in the product can cause problems for those people that have beautiful skin or worsen problematic skin and it is also the reason why you will find that most products should be thrown away in 90-180 days! 95% of the skincare industry is not regulated by the FDA.

Pharmaceutical grade ingredients are regulated by the FDA and contain ingredients that actually react as they are supposed to (anti aging, healing, reversed aging, etc...). The FDA requires these products to be 99.9% pure ingredients and only 5% of the skincare industry falls under this category. These types of products can be found among estheticians, dermatologists, medical doctors, and plastic surgeons. Gerda Spillmann is 100% pharmaceutical and I highly recommend this skincare line to everybody! Even their makeup is good for your skin!
